Are you thinking green?

Assignment 12

Our environmental objectives may be a "lighter green" than some but we're thinking a darker green than most!
Reducing, reusing and recycling just seems to be a good idea.

Sweet Corn

1.WE GREW A GARDEN. We reduced shopping trips and bags. My family eats organic and we're watering plants that give back!

2.WE PLANTED A TREE. We poured cement for a patio, so we planted a tree. Later, we planted two fruit trees in the backyard!

3.WE CONSERVE WATER. We chose drought tolerant plants for containers and we cut out a day of watering the grass. Sometimes I turn of the shower when I suds up.

4.FREE STUFF. Most of our plants came from clippings from gardens of friends and relatives.

Moms Bike

5.WE BICYCLE. I've biked to and from work. That included biking to and from the sitters.

6.WE DRIVE SHORTER DISTANCES. We didn't pull our son from his school when we first moved. Eventually we had to and now we're saving at least a fill-up every 4 days.

7.WE LINK TRIPS. We plan shopping trips around school schedules. We pre-plan road trips to get the best mileage and hit the best sites.

8.WE ARE GREEN PARENTS. Juicing and making homemade baby food cuts out small plastic/glass containers. Nursing without bottles and inserts reduced plastics as well as reduced formula packaging, whatever that comes in. Like breastfeeding, green living must be Gods intent.

Cans and Bottles

9.WE RECYCLE. All plastics, glass and aluminum (used at home and camping) are recycled. Most paper and styrofoam are also recycled.

10.WE TRACK OUR ENERGY. We still can't read our energy bills; however, we must have become more efficient in the last 3 months. Our electricity bill has gone down $200, and water has stayed the same (even after a price increase).

11.WE LIMIT RED MEAT. We started eating red meat on weekends only. The rest of the week we eat chicken, fish and turkey. Our cholesterol has lowered and I've lost 12lbs!

12. ETC. We cut out fast food and small portion packaging. We use cloth hand towels instead of paper. We installed energy efficient windows and appliances. We added insulation into new walls and ceilings. We refill printer cartridges, donate old computers and monitors and receive paperless bills. We also shop with canvas bags.
