Sam and Frodo
LINK TO MERRY AND PIPPIN
The ring of power is bequeathed to Frodo after his uncle Bilbo is forced to leave it at Bag End. At the council of Elrond he volunteers to carry the ring to Mount Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed. After overhearing a conversation between Frodo and Gandalf, Sam is roped into the quest to look after Frodo.
Although the ring is not much to look at, it is a terrible burden for Frodo to carry. With its constant temptations and whisperings, it has the power to draw to it the attention of the enemy and the great eye of Sauron which is constantly looking for it. Always the rings strives to return to its master and maker. Frodo does his best to resist the temptations the ring carries but with the rewards of claiming the ring being ultimate power, who can resist for long?
Like his father, Samwise Gamgee is a gardener. He has fallen in love with the barmaid of the local pub in Hobbiton. Rosie Cotton is one of the prettiest hobbits in The Shire but Sam is too shy and insecure to make approaches to her. Sam is a solid, dependable and fiercely loyal friend to Frodo. In the face of much adversity he ensures Frodo has the energy and support he needs to complete this essential quest.
