| Foolish Games - Jewel |
(Chantelle reads:) We as Gavin's sisters, would like to speak on behalf of our family, and wish to say a few words about Gavin. Gavin was born on a warm summers day in November 1978. He was the son of Debbie and Peter, younger brother to Mandy and Chantelle, older brother to Hayley, Stacey, Shaun and Lisa. His spirit lives on through his children Liam and Ebony. From an early age Gavin was full of ideas on how to do just about everything... He was forever pulling apart anything he could get his hands on, to see how it worked. Then he would re-assemble it in an entirely different way, yet to everyone's amazement it would still work, even with parts missing. To say Gavin was determined would be an understatement... Much to Mum's horror at the age of three, living at a caravan park in Kalgoorlie, Gavin was caught waiting for cars to slow down and drive over the speed hump so that he could hold onto their tow balls and catch a ride over the bump with them on his tricycle. As a young boy Gavin played lots of sports... His main passion though was football, Mum remembers quite clearly Gavin's first game where he managed to kick a goal, only to find out that he had scored for the other team. Growing up with Gavin was an experience within itself, as he was always concocting up new thing to do like jumping off the house roof onto our trampoline.. (Mandy reads:) I'll always cherish the simple memories of our childhood, like murder in the dark, watching Gavin chase race horse lizards in Karratha, boondy fights, playing Monkey Magic. Gavin was Monkey, Chantelle was Sandy and sometimes Piggsy, and I was Trippy Tucker. Gavin would often break or smash things and not own up to them. I can remember the time Gavin got a cricket set for Christmas and accidently smashed a hole in the toilet window. He went to such sneaky lengths to cover it up. After jumping the back fence and knocking on the front door and Mum letting him in. Gavin claimed he'd been at a friends house and knew nothing about the broken window. Mum was fortunately wiser to Gavin's tricks and he was found out. Another time Gavin was putting the ironing board away and somehow managed to knock a nice round hole into the wall. No one heard the smash so Gavin decided to cover the hole with sticky tape, and when Mum discovered it he swore blind that he didn't do it. but good old detective Mum figured it out again.. (Chantelle reads:) There are many things that Gavin will be remembered for, but what we will never forget is his sense of humour. Gavin grew into a young man with an abundance of dreams, goals and ideas... Maybe he didn't get to succeed in them all but he gave it a good try. Although Gavin lost his way at times, we always loved him and tried our best to offer him guidance. I know if Gavin were watching right now, he would be honoured to see that so many people have come to pay their last respects to him. The heart ache that we feel in our lives of losing an only son and brother can never be replaced or forgotten... We can only find comfort in hoping that Gavin is in a better place and at PEACE. WE'LL MISS YOU GAVIN.. |
