No News would be Better |

After watching the local news on TV and reading the newspaper, i have come to the conclusion that the news media and mass media in general have alot to learn. For Example, the top headline on the front page of a recent issue of the Conroe Courier, says "Pet Monkey quarantined after attack". The article goes on to explain that a kid was throwing fireworks at the monkey and it attacked him. The thing is, the paper interviewed someone who had heard from a friend, but wasn't actually present at the attack. Nice eye witness there guys. Moving on. A local new stations news at noon's Big story was that a Montgomery High School kid got signed to play golf at some abiguous University. Well I'm glad that was breaking news for you guys, i mean its not like there are more important things going on.... |

Post September 11th Patriotism |
Has anyone else noticed that since the tragic events of September 11th, that there seems to be a surge of Patriotism? It seems that every tom, dick, harry, and jane have all doned red, white, and blue attire, and they dont even know why. Dont get me wrong, i love this country, and agree that its still the best country out there, but i am not going to let a new surge of nationalizim blind me from the injustices perfromed by our government on its own people. For example, the Bush administration is now using a disguise of concern to take away the publics right to privacy. Calling it a new tactic in the "war on terrorism", the Bush administration is using programs that track and record phone conversations, emails, Instant messages, chat conversations, and online activety ( ie: what sites you visit). Not only that, but they have also increased the ammount of video survielence around the country; at stop lights, in resturants, in stores, and even in restrooms. My advice? Be very careful out in the open.... |

Schools a "Wise Idea"? |
I think that this new policy of ensuring that everyone, children grades K-12, is on the same level intellectually is rubish. Don't get me wrong, i believe that everyone deserves a fair chance... but that doesn't mean that the system should bring down the intelligence of smarter children, simply to level the playing field. This general "dumbing down" of our educational system has been evident since the late 1960's, but no one cares, because just as long as THE MAN gets his money ( bodies in a class = $$$ ) then everyone is happy. Well i say that all of you reading this should say "hell no! i dont want to be an idiot!", write your congress man/ woman and tell them that you care more about yourself than that. |
