The Firstborn

Sun Elves
The strain of Elven kind that chose Solaris as their god bear skin of a golden tan and brilliant, blonde strands of hair. Their eyes are broad and slanted, like the other Elves, which allows for their keen sight. Also characteristic amongst the Elven races are their pointed, highly acute ears that allow them to hear even the most tender of sounds. On average, Elves, both male and female, grow to heights averaging from 5.5 to 6.5 feet. Their body structure is very lithe, in comparison to the other races of Illcara, weighing on average 85 lbs. to 140 lbs, males usually weighing closer to 140, females closer to 85. Another defining feature from the other races is the Elves angular, and beautiful, features. Both of all Elven breeds are often seen as the most physically attractive races upon Illcara. Because of this fact, the majority of Elves are rather high in themselves. Furthermore, the fact that they are immortal also gives them an increased ego.

Sun Elven society is largely communal, with everyone helping one-another. Great respect is placed in the elderly and it is stressed amongst younger generations to take what they can from the old. They are also a very artsy society, enjoying song and crafting immensely. This is easily seen in the architecture of their cities. With other races, Sun Elves mostly stray from their cousins the Dark Elves most. They also hold little regard for Humans, especially since the War of Those Born. Towards every other race, they are relatively neutral. One noticeable factor amongst all Elven kind is the rarity of interspecies relations. For all strains of Elves, they tend to marry amongst their own race solely, though some have found companionship elsewhere.

The Sun Elves speak Elven, the common Elven tongue, and Sol, their own tongue. Sol is a derivative of Elven, but much more song-like. The alphabet is largely the same, as is diction. It is mostly the lyrical emphasis applied to words that makes the language definable as Sun Elven. To listen to a Sun Elven conversation, one would swear they were merely exchanging musical verse instead of politics or family matters.

They are loyalists of Solaris, first and foremost, referring to him as Farther Dawn in their native tongue. It is rare to find a Sun Elf faithful to any other god. Where the Sun Elves excel is in their arts, and to that end, have notably talented bards. Also, many choose to become zealously loyal to Solaris and therefore pursue priesthood as well.

Wild Elves

The Wild Elves, those that remained loyal to their creator Neutari, are definable from other Elves only by their slightly larger body frame (though not much larger), and long, brown hair and lightly tanned skin. However, unlike the Dark Elves and Sun Elves, Wild Elves do not hold any pride in their looks. They believe that such hubris is frowned upon by nature. To that end, they put little emphasis on appearance aside from how fit they are. They often where cured hides and other means provided by nature instead of lofty silks and robes. Their frame is slightly more muscular to their more feral nature. Males weigh, on average, 140 to 165 lbs. while females sit around 95 to 115 lbs.

Like the Sun Elves, Wild Elves have a strong sense of community. However, it is the younger generations where emphasis is paid. It is the goal of the old, to teach the new. The Wild Elves live harmoniously with nature, living off the land and with what is given them, never taking what is unnecessary. They pride themselves in their arts as hunters and master bowmen. The Wild Elves maintain strict secrecy, rarely leaving their own glades. Modern cities are distasteful to them, as are the races in them that destroy nature. To this end, the Wild Elves also interact little with their fellow Elven cousins, keeping ties only to their more direct cousins, the Lycanthari.

Elven is the common tongue amongst the Wild Elves, but they also have their own derivative too. Unlike the Sun Elf tongue, the Wild Elf tongue bears very little resemblance to Elven whatsoever. To this end, they keep many of their personal matters very secretive. Their language comes off as a lot more feral and animal-like. There is still the element of Elven artistry in it, but it seems more in tune with earth and trees.

The Wild Elves abide to Neutari above all others, seeing him as the true keeper of harmony in nature, and therefore refer to him as the Wilder Wanderer. It is incredibly rare to see a Wild Elf stray from their faith in him, though some have begun to follow after Lillith D'untai, Goddess of the Warren of Nature. Wild Elves make excellent archers and rangers, but their connection with nature also makes for gifted druids as well.

Dark Elves
As far as build is concerned, Dark Elves look the same as Sun Elves. However, their ebony skin colour and white hair is what sets the two breeds apart. That, and some Dark Elves are born with red eyes, which is something that never occurs amongst the other Elven strains.

For the most part, Dark Elf society is very hierarchal monarchy, with one ruler, the nobles, and the commoners. However, unlike the Avari and Daravari society, there are differences amongst the social ranks. But, the peasant-class is not treated with total disrespect, but is lacking many of the benefits the royalty and nobility are entitled to. With the outside world, Dark Elves stray from most every other culture aside from the Avari, holding much disdain for the Sun Elves. It is only in times of war that the two races will ever come together.

Like all Elves, the Dark Elves are able to speak Elven. But, like the Wild Elves, they have their own language that is very dissimilar to Elven. Their language, Varken, sounds very similar to the cryptic language used when casting spells. It seems very languid and very gothic, much like every other aspect of Dark Elven design.

For many years, the Dark Elves were sword solely to Vrakna, Lord of Darkness. However, with the succession of Emperor Jarlaxle, dark elves were allowed to pursue faith in whatever god they so pleased, without prosecution. For the most part, Dark Elves are exceptional mages, and pride themselves in their magical studies. Some also become very effective assassins as well.
