Ildanach was created in 1997 to bring art to a wider audience. Put simply we aim to bring Irish contemporary art to as many people as possible as economically as possible.

The two main costs contained in the price of a painting, are the commission a gallery charges, and the cost of the framing.

We sell the paintings with the individually tailored inner mountings and secure packaging, but without the teak frame. Our commission rate is less than a quarter of most galleries which makes us by far the best and most economical gallery in Ireland.

Many galleries charge up to 40% commission on all paintings in a gallery, which the artist of course has to pass on to the customer.

Framing costs can be from 40 to 200 per painting. Ildanach have found that most people who buy or receive art re-frame it.

Firstly, as an artist has no guarantee of selling a painting, to frame it is a cost they may never get back. Many frames are thus bought with a cost focus in mind rather than quality, or what suits the painting.

Secondly, customers reframe the painting to compliment the decor of their room, office, or to match other paintings they have on display.

Finally, the cost of shipping/flying, a painting somewhere is contained in the weight of the frame and glass, and its fragility. As many of our customers are tourists or on business this would be a substantial cost in the purchase.
