So why Formula 1?

It is no surprise that Audi has been competing in motorsport pretty much ever since it first appeared, we are talking about rallies with the legendary Audi A4 quattro that changed the game, or the Endurance World Championship, where alongiside their company partners Porsche, they have accumulated a big amount of trophies and established themselves as one of the biggest teams.

And even just a few years ago, Audi joined one of the biggest motorsport competitions in the world, the Rally Dakar, which takes place once very year and consist of cars, bikes, trucks and quads try to cross multiple countries in a span of two weeks in the lowest time possible, having to face extremely hard conditions and roads that only the best drivers alongiside the best cars can survive. And Audi joined with a ground-breaking project that left everyone speechless. They brought in the first ever fully electric car. If you want to find out more about it, visit this link.

So, having a spot in almost all of the top motorsport categories is cool, not a proper thing from one of the biggest car manufacters in the world. The next logical step is to join the king of motorsport, also known as Formula 1. But is not as simple as it may seem, you dont only need hundreds of millions fo dollars to develop the best car ever, but you need a spot among the 10 that are currently on the grid. This is where the problem begins, because it doesnt happend very often that team want to leave the competition, unless it´s for a lack for money, and companies don´t want to wait around for a team to leave, so what do they do? They start collaborating with an already established team and slowy take over the whole infrastructure.

Thats what´s happening with Audi-Sauber. Audi will provide mechanical parts for the team and also get to learn and gain the necessary experience for, once they are ready, takeover and create their own team and start competing by themselves.
