Due Date March 29, 2004
This is an independent study assignment. Students will be given some time in class to work on projects.
You may do this project with a partner or you may do this alone.
The final project may take the form of a power point presentation or poster. If you choose to do a poster, remember that this is a senior grade and the quality of the final project is to be equivalent to that of a power point presentation. Your final project may also take the form of a website.
Requirements:
You are to investigate a variety of computer related careers. (4-6 different careers are suitable however you may choose to do less or more depending on the depth of your research.)
Research the skills and requirements that are necessary for these careers.
Research and determine the educational requirements for these careers. Consider not only the minimum requirements but also advanced options.
Determine what other skills are necessary for these jobs. Consider what else you must be willing to do to be successful in these fields such as travel, shift work, public speaking, etc.
Investigate the salary options and opportunities.
Include any relevant information, which will make this assignment of personal value to you.
Your project should arrive at some kind of personal conclusion. For example you should be able to determine after doing this investigation if this is a suitable career for you. If it is, why is it, if not, why not?
You must include a bibliography of list of resources you have used to gather information. You may use internet (make sure you include URLs and date), newspapers and magazines (include name, date, issue, article title, and author), and personal interviews (include a name and business telephone number).
This is an important assignment. Many of you are unsure about where you are going after this program (Computer Science) and hopefully this investigation will give you some insight about your career plans. Don't look at this as just an assignment for school, but rather take this opportunity to investigate your choices and discover some of the things you may like or dislike about technology careers.
