Team in Training

I recently discovered Team in Training (TNT) back in November after they had sent me a pamphlet in the mail informing me of an information session at the Riverhead Holiday Inn Express. Throughout the information session I was struck with the level of commitment and enthusiasm expressed by everyone associated with the program, and felt very strongly that these were just the sort of people I wanted to be around. Maddeningly cheery and hopelessly optimistic, I feel like I've finally found the kindred spirits I'd been looking for all along. Make sure to read my Fundraising Letter, and Donate Donate Donate!

Well,  looks like TNT season one is going pretty well. So far this season I've put in  8 hours of running, 9 hours of swimming, and 6 hours of biking. I've currently raised just over $1600, and things are looking up for the next few months. This weekend I'm going to start going to local restaurants to try and get weekly drink/food specials that donate part of the proceeds towards finding a cure, and I'm also going to try to branch out into the community through the local Rotary, Kiwannis, and Lion's clubs.

I've definately felt best about my improvements in the pool. At the beginning of this season I really struggled in the water, but now I've moved over two lanes (a good thing), my technique has improved dramatically, and I swim at least three times a week. I really have to thank Coach Micheal for all of this help in the fast lane, and the Holtsville YMCA for giving me the stellar membership deal for the  next six months. I swam my first 2500 yard workout last week, and followed up with another this week. Swimming is great!

In other news, I have to say that Jose is one AWESOME spin instructor. How many people do YOU know that will seriously get people to work out to the theme from the first superman film? Yeah, that song. AND he wore a superman T-Shirt. An hour and a half and 1500 calories later, I found a new Hero. We do because we can in the hopes that those who cannot will one day join us.

This is Lori, my TNT triathlon mentor. She blasted through her fundraising last season, and went on to finish several more events before signing on to be a team mentor. She is looking to raise a whopping $20,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this season alone. To find out that someone would be willing to donate that kind of time and effort after only a year with TNT says a great deal about the organization and the experience.
