I joined Team in Training
(TNT) in November
of 2006 in order
to train for my first triathlon, the
Subaru Memphis in
May. At first I thought that it would just be a simple way to
get the guidance I needed in order to get fit and get racing. However,
as soon as the first meeting it was apparent that TNT was something
very different. It seems like every person associated with TNT comes
away a changed person, filled with a remarkable confidence to face up
to challenges they had never thought possible. Part of this comes from
the terrific coaching staff and the program's helpful administrators,
but I think that mostly people thrive knowing that their efforts are
for the people supported by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Each team has a team hero, a blood cancer survivor from their area who
provide support. Hell, some of them even race with us. Such strength of
will is very inspiring, and equally so is knowing that what this team
does offers those inspiring people and their families hope for the
future. The season begins in earnest tomorrow, and I truly plan on
giving it my all.
