Kindred Spirits.
A heart made barren, eyes grown cold,
Memories of love, in her life of old.
A changeling, in this world of new,
To her inner being, nothing broke through.
Where his heart used to be, an empty hole,
He vowed no one again would touch his soul.
Boarded up, no unlocking that door,
Love wasn't for him, not anymore.
A chance encounter, one fateful night,
A spark of hope, a ray of light.
A meeting of minds, more than mere words,
From his lips, a laugh was heard.
A smile that finally touched her eyes,
Slowly replenishing what had once died.
Kindred spirits, two halves made whole,
A meeting of minds, a mating of souls.

Memories.
Memories of the voice I loved,
And whispers over the phone.
The words of love that you typed,
Much too close to home.
Memories of your hand on the screen,
Reaching out to touch mine.
The laughter and love that we shared,
Still creeps into my mind.
Memories of pure love and happiness,
That I found in your eyes.
The way everything was bright in life,
You chased the clouds from my skies.
Memories of good times still float in,
Through the cracks around my shell.
The armour that you tore apart,
From the moment that I fell.
Memories of that face I adored,
That kept me from feeling cold.
Memories, now that I dont have you,
Are all I have to hold.

Lies Behind the Words.
Weve been heading down a dead end street,
For quite some time now.
We both knew it was time to end it,
But neither of us knew how.

But you got the courage to come up with the words,
And I pretended to agree.
But as I read the words you wrote,
I knew how hard this would be.

I know I said all the things that were expected,
And all the things you needed me to say.
But didnt you see the lies behind my words?
Did you feel my composure fall away?

The truth is that this isnt better,
And being apart isnt right.
Weve been together for so long now,
Youll always be a part of my life.

And now, what do I do without you here?
Who am I now youre gone?
After all weve meant to one another,
How do I go it alone?

Unseen Bruises.
The pain you inflict doesn't leave a bruise,
There's no excuse to make, no clever ruse.
The pain comes not from your fist, but your lips,
Always hitting the target, you never miss.
I'm helpless against your war of words,
'You're useless' is something I've often heard.
You're always saying 'you can't do anything right',
Anger and blame occur every night.
Yet who would believe me if I spoke out?
Who would understand what this is about?
On the outside we're perfect husband and wife,
They don't see the horror that is my life.
They don't see the fury, there in your eyes,
They don't see the pain, with each tear I cry.
They see the happy, smiling face,
Makeup perfect, not a hair out of place.
Yet that perfection is a world away,
From the punishment you inflict each day.
You control my life, take away my right to choose,
Because you strike with your mouth, leaving an unseen bruise.

Gossamer Wings.
On gossamer wings, she floats over to the bed,
And gently kisses her daddys cheek.
He doesnt feel her breath on him,
Just turns over in his sleep.
She goes around to her mommys side,
And whispers in her ear.
My mother is dreaming of her daughters face,
And the laughter she no longer hears.
She sits quietly on the bed,
And silently admires her wings.
The voice of an angel fills the room,
As she softly begins to sing.
She was taken before her time,
Before she was meant to go.
And left her parents broken and shattered,
And feeling so alone.
She turns toward the window,
And looks out at the sky.
She knows the sun will be up soon,
Its time for her to fly.
She turns to look at her parents once more,
And smiles that angelic smile.
Mommy and Daddy, I have to go,
But Ill be back in a while.
Then shes gone, and the room is still,
Until her parents awake.
The mother suddenly remembers her daughter,
And once again, her heart breaks.
She smells that scent she still remembers,
And it brings hope to her eyes
She breathes deeply, savouring that memory,
As her tears start to dry.
She thinks of her baby, so so precious,
The smile so beautiful and sweet.
She realizes her daughter is never gone,
She visits them on gossamer feet.

California Sky.
The sun sinks slowly over the horizon,
Hitting the sea with a distant sigh.
We watch silently, hands intertwined,
Under a balmy California Sky.
Streaks of purple move across the world,
The evenings first stars arise.
I turn to you with a small smile,
Seeing the love in your eyes.
You gradually bend your head towards mine,
Our lips meet and I sigh.
Were alone in the world tonight,
Under this beautiful California sky.
You cup my chin in your hand,
And run your lips down my jaw.
Im silent as I look in your eyes,
The eyes of whom I adore.
I run one hand down your back,
And the other along your lips.
You lift my face gently to yours,
Our lips meet and we kiss.
Everything else ceases to exist,
Were still alone tonight.
Just you and I, sharing the moment,
Under a beautiful California twilight.
Your face becomes hazy, the stars disappear,
I awake and my dream dies.
Im alone, youre where you have to be,
But Ill still dream of a California Sky.
