Before 1833 the property was part of Shenandoah Co., VA and from 1772-1778 it was Dunmore Co., VA. Before it was Dunmore it was Augusta County and or Frederick County and prior to 1743 it was part of Orange Co., VA. 1783, Benjamin Strickler is enumerated in the state census with 9 persons in his dwelling. There is great question as to who the others living with Benjamin are. There are 4 proven children, Samuel, Nancy, Daniel and David. Another was likely named Maria and she died in 1806 and is buried beside her mother.  This leaves two unidentified persons in the household. They are probably Michael Roads who was married to Nancy and their oldest son John Roads.
So in the household would be 1) Benjamin 2) Maria 3) Samuel 4) Daniel 5) David 6) Nancy Roads 7) Michael Roads 8) John Roads 9) Maria Strickler
His neighbors were Jacob, Joseph and Isaac Strickler.

1785, Benjamin Strickler is enumerated in the state census with 6 persons in his dwelling. By the time of the census Michael Roads and his wife Nancy and children probably had left the household. This would account for the reduction in the household from 9 to 6. Thus leaving in 1785 these persons in the household: 1) Benjamin 2) Maria 3) Samuel 4) Daniel 5) David and 6) Maria Strickler ; His neighbors were Jacob, Joseph and Isaac Strickler.
