Original Short Stories
While I love the short stories I have written to death, most of them are not well written in comparison to my fan fiction short stories. I am no judge to whether my writing is any good or not, but I do believe that my fan fiction stories are better. Part of this reason is that I simply have problems with characterization of a whole cast of original characters in an original setting. I have no problems with original characters in a fan fiction setting.
A long time ago, Fanfiction.net used to also host original work. My account held both my fan fiction and original work, but due to a reason that I cannot remember, I removed my short stories from the website. Now, the only person who ever sees these short stories is me.
Original Poetry
There is something absolutely amazing about writing poetry. It is a feeling that I have a hard time describing, because it is one of those sensations that must be experienced to be understood.
Of all the types of writing I have done, I have been writing poetry the longest. I am not picky about how I write it: I have written in specific poetry structures as well as free verse. My free verse poetry often have something to do with an event that happened in my life, and have a much more personal feel to it. My structured poetry is more... poetic (for lack of a better way to describe it)... and is meant to paint an image in the mind.
My favorite kind of poetry would probably be the vilanelle, which is has a complicated rhyme sceme that spans 19 lines. It takes a lot of work to write, but when it is finished and all of the words seem to fall into place, I simply can't help but smile. The creative process is amazing, and I love being a participant in it.
