Fan Fiction

Of all the different kinds of writing I do, the catagory that is by far the largest is fan fiction. Fan fiction is writing that is not based off original work of the author, but of a series that someone else has created. There is fan fiction for almost anything in the world: books, tv shows, animation, comics, music groups, celebrities...

I mainly write for animated tv series and comics, more specifically Japanese (however, I have also written for Harry Potter). In the fandom, or world of the fans that are into a certain interest, it is referred to as "anime" and "manga." "Anime" referrs to the animated series while "manga" referrs to the comics.

The world of anime and manga is humongous, and there are only a few series that I actually write for. There are several series that I love to read/watch that I could never write for, due to several reasons. The series I have written for are: The Sorcerer Hunters, Inu Yasha, Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin, GTO, Naruto and Saiyuki.

Here is a breakdown of how many stories I have written for each series:

Sorcerer Hunters
3
Inu Yasha
8
Sailor Moon
3
Rurouni Kenshin
2
GTO
1
Naruto
3
Saiyuki
5
Harry Potter
2
Crossovers
4

Most of these stories have not been finished. Some of them have less than a page written for them, and others have chapters that are almost complete. Most of these stories are destined to be multi-chapter fics (term used by the fan fiction community for stories), but many of them are also simply short stories.

Crossovers are exactly what they suggest. One of the beautiful things about the world of fan fiction is that anything is possible. My favorite kind of story to read and/or write are crossovers, because there is no way that they would ever be able to happen in "real life." It is a chance to see my favorite characters of other series interact with each other, and is generally very enjoyable. However, since most of the crossovers avaliable are poorly written, they do not have a very good reputation.

I started writing fan fiction when I was in 8th grade and early 9th grade. These stories were for one of my favorite series: Sailor Moon. Although I never showed these stories to anyone (they were deleted about a year after I wrote them, I was too ashamed of them), they served to be good for gaining experience in what I should NOT do.
Still, the biggest thing that ever came out of that writing was my online alias. Taken from the name of an original character within the story, I started to use the name "Iapetus" on foums. It eventually became the basis for my e-mail addresses, IMing names and the penname for my stories.

When I was a junior in High School, I decided to try writing fan fiction again with a crossover between two VERY awesome series: The Sorcerer Hunters and Inu Yasha. I consider this my "first" fan fiction, because it was the first one that I ever put any serious effort into. It was also the first story that I posted on Fanfiction.net. The story, which is called "Twisted Well," now contains 16 chapters and one side story for a combination of over 60,000 words. It is incomplete, and will not be finished for a long time.

Of all the stories I have written, 11 of them have been posted on my profile on Fanfiction.net. Four of the stories that have been posted have not been completed (including "Twisted Well").
