Comment: The film was given an 18 Certificate...by its makers. Surely a publicity stunt, as Bloodline, which has as much horror content, was given a 12, a year later. You boys!
Roots: B Movies, Doctor Who, U.N.I.T. , vampire films, the Vampire Clown of Rochdale (a lie of course, unless Steve secretly saw the footage from 1990 and got inspired....I doubt it!
Best Gum chewer during takes: Garry Cullen
Dialogue Disasters: "Oh my god! It's an 'and!"
"It's your neck on the line"
The dubbing of the entire film
Double Entendres: "Come on. We can raise some troops in the car."
Dialogue Triumphs: "The big question is: did you fall or were you sent?"
"If you're going to behave like a scientist, you're going to have to look like a scientist. Wear a white jacket." "I AM a scientist!"
The Best Bit: Its got to be the decapitation! Highly complex to achieve, great fun to do, and probably the goriest thing we ever did.
Also like Sharon vomiting over Colin, and her sudden appearance behind Steve.
Personal Glimpse by: Eric Davies
You'd have thought I'd have learned by now. "Oh, its only a small part, Eric. You just play a scientist" Yeh, right. What I wasn't told was that I would have to wear girlie make-up, which Ian had tried to get me into for years (and normally when we weren't filming!), have some ridiculous looking vampire teeth, wear a mucky mack, walk through freezing cold water and finally be decapitated. Ok, so it wasn't my head, but I was under all those so called special FX , which oozed down my neck. Don't let anyone kid you into thinking filming is fun. Still at least, unlike Ian's films I wasn't freezing cold stood still for ages, or on some deslocate moor somewhere. It was in Judy
Woods, I recall. And in summer, too. I remember how Ian had ridiculously learned the part with a Welsh accent, and was told to do it in normal voice...which he couldn't do! I remember how hormones were rife in the camp, you didn't know who was donig what, and with whom! But it didn't interfere with filming, and it was a fairly smooth production, and done in a fairly short space of time, too.
What a pity, that the editors wreck the entire thing by not spending enough time on the dubbing. Its bloody awful. Wouldn't have happened in Adlib North West days.
     I wonder if there'll be a Nightfall 2?
The Bottom line: With gore galore, and thrills and spills, this film achieves what it set out to do. It has an uncomfortable feel to it, in its favour. Its unnerving. The music by Graham Forbes, is very eerie. Its let down by its poor animation and dubbing. With a larger than normal cast, it was quite a successful project at the time, and still looks good today.
Eric turns up for Make-up
Colin, stargazing as normal
Well it could have been for the swearing...
Like a stake through the heart
Even the trees aren't real...
Eric loses his head...again!
Well she must look attractive to someone!
...then I had this tattoo done in Cairo...
