| Apart From The Bloke Who Wrote This!! No More Heroes - Alex Ogg - Cherry Red This book is a fine achievement, a great read and an eye opener (even to someone as jaded in the Punk Rock game as me!). Alex has worked long and hard to get an end result which gathers together the list of ace faces and obscure beyond obscurities in a way no other volume has. Of course you get the story of the Pistols, Clash and Damned but also the Exile, Acme Sewage Co and Wrist Action along with so many others. And refreshingly enough there's no "after 76 it was all over" look down your nose nonsense here. It's not a po-faced look at things either, it's laced with Alex's own humour and musings, which makes it enjoyable even if you're no au fait with the subject matter. It's a wonderful "dip in" reference book as well as a cracking read, that never flags throughout it's 700+ pages. Use that Xmas book token on this! I Was Just Watching Television........ I've been sent a lot of DVDs by Cherry Red lately. Took a bit of a guilty pleasure in a couple of Hawkwind's (one a 3 discer! Still you can't knock "Silver Machine"), but much more my thing is the "Kamikaze" disc by the Boys. Selections from their first incarnation (1980 supporting the Ramones must have been some gig) and their reformed guise. The cheap and, er cheap production values and camera work cannot hide those songs like "Living In The City" and "Cop Cars". Always a great live band too as shown by their recent London farewell(?) gigs....... Also recieved with thanks at PTP central....loads of identikit Pyscho bands (though the Krewmen one had a few nice ordinary Rockabilly moments), a Wendy O Williams gig from the 80s (too Metal for me) and another Neubaten collection "Listen With Pain" (hmmm apt title but interesting). The DOA DVD "Positively DOA" has a few Lo-FI thrills and they always were an excellent live band. A guest appearance from the venerable Mensi too. Also the aformentioned Conflict DVDs were pretty good, not bad camera work and sound on these, something you can't really say about "Punk On The Road" or "Maximum Oi" (which was a shame as I like the Oppressed).
