No One Can Take Us Down Notes Page "No One Can Take Us Down", along with "Spirit Inside Me", was written for a Commercial Songwriting class when I was at MTSU. While writing it, I had tried to match the energy and enthusiasm I received from "Rise Up and Walk", so I ended up using similar blues riffs and the same usage of the verses being in chronological order. With the exception of some phrasing problems (which were fixed before I placed this song on this CD), the song was well-liked by the class. Once the problems were fixed, it became a great hit with the household. I've even heard people compare it to the jamming styles of Ben Folds Five. The song starts with two examples of how believing had helped two people to endure. The first verse is on the record of the woman with a blood disease who believed that by touching the hem of Jesus' garment, she would be made whole. (Mark 5:24 - 34). In addition to fighting against her disease, the woman had to make her way through an enormous crowd of people that were surrounding Jesus Christ and his disciples. When she touched his garment, Jesus Christ (by way of revelation) knew that a healing had just taken place and asked who had touched him. His disciples, looking through the five senses rather than the spiritual senses, saw a crowd of people touching him and nothing more. However, the woman, who had just been made whole, came forward and told him what she had done. He explained to her that her believing was what made her whole. One of the disciples, Peter, had a similar transition in believing. He, along with the other disciples, were sore afraid of the ruling body of Israel after they had brutally murdered Jesus Christ. But when Jesus Christ ressurected from the grave and then ascended (Acts 1:8-10), Peter changed his mind and realized that there was no need to fear. He boldly spoke in tongues and preached at the temple during Pentecost in front of all of those religious leaders and told them that the very same Jesus that they had crucified was both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36). He saved around three thousand souls that day (Acts 2:41) and became a major leader in the Christian church because he believed that no one could bring him down. Today, God has promised us the same power. We don't have to be beaten. We can endure, knowing that no one can take us down. Take a look at the following promises of God: Romans 8:31b: "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:37 - 39 "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalites, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come," "Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Philippians 4:13 "I [put your name here] can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." |
