Poems about Abandonment

Requiem

I endeavor this rage within me
to smother, but it blankets me
like a familiar cover.  I'm
bittered by your fraud, your
continued unattentiveness, and
flaky facade.  I so long ME to
unearth; this person inside that
needs to be birthed.
My attempts to communicate,
you hold at bay, afraid to imagine
I'd have anything to say.  I seem
to burden you, though youth
enslaved;  watching as my destiny
is being engraved.  Your negative
demeanor only impels me,
Further into the vault of my mind
to flee.  The hourglass;
my life the sand, totters carelessly
in your glutted hands.  I stumble
alone trying to find my way,
whilst my feet are imprisoned in
miry clay.  I've become obstinate
with vacant stare, pretending I
don't see happiness out there.
I query what manner of adult I'll
be when you've neglected
to love and nuture me.

      Abandoning Love

Yesterday's Man

The shattered glass
still claws the frame.
She's moved away and
changed her name.
She wanted to be the love
of your life, but she only
knew fear and daily strife.
The dreams you sold her
when first you met, soon
turned to dismay and
bitter regret.  She tried to
love you and understand
why your temper so easily
got out-of-hand.  She
stayed by your side for many
years, but you killed her
spirit and stomped her tears.
Her decision to leave
wasn't easy or planned,
because she knows deep
inside you is yesterday's man.
