This is a new site that allows you to rate and review movies and tv shows similiar to popular sites like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. Users are able to provide their own thoughts and opinions about their favorite and unfavorite movies and tv shows. While other similar sites offer the same capability of rating and reviewing movies and tv shows, their focus is more on reviews submitted by critics. This site’s focus will solely be based on user ratings and reviews and what the general audience thinks about each movie and tv show. The steps I took to ensure I met my objectives where completing my previous milestones. It's easy to picture and put it into words, however it takes significant planning and research to reach a desired and effective result. Selecting a site structural theme and creating a site structure were extremely helpful, and while some changes can happen and perhaps necessary it was easy to view what I had mapped out to then incorporate the changes in HTML.
I decided that the site would have a lighter color background for the main content, and a darker color for the background of the body, as one can see on both the left and right side of the page. The lighter color directs the users attention to the center of the page where all the information is displayed. At the top of the page there is a navigation bar with a dropdown menu that displays all of the five pages users can select to visit. Every page is consistent with the design for a smooth flow and to avoid confusing the user. Each page keeps information centered and users can navigate to any other supporting pages, or back to the home page from any section of the entire site. Additionally, all buttons except for "Home" will stay highlighted as a way to inform the user which page they are currently viewing. The overall style I have attempted to implement is minimalistic, keeping space open on each page to allow users to navigate their way around with ease.
The colors I have chosen to use are for the purpose of closely adapting a dark theme adding more emphasis to the main content, and to also avoid eyestrain when users are going from being in a bright environment to being in a dark environment. The background colors I have chosen to use are gray and light gray, while the navigation bar is black. I avoided selecting colors that will cause the site to be visually distracting given that there will be several images and videos that standout.
Arial Black is used for the headline to put emphasis on the nav bar and dropdown content. The main content I have used Arial to keep things standard as it continues to be one of the most widely used sans-serif fonts. Helvetica is the fallback to Arial since it is usually the go-to sans serif font. I also used Segoe UI and Segoe UI Black as a fallback to Arial and Arial Black.
If time permitted I would like to have accomplished a whole lot more than what is shown. The following are a few things I would have wanted to create and still plan to do so:
1. Give users the ability to create an account if they wish to or comment via other social media channels.
2. Add an entire database of movies and TV Shows and make the search bar functional to search the entire database and site.
3. Create a rating system and the ability for users to rate movies and TV shows.
4. Create a feedback and support page.
5. Learn how to use Javascript to help me accomplish the tasks above and fine tune the site a whole lot more, as it is still very much so a work in progress.
