As in most simulations, a lot of compromises and assumptions have been made to
model the real-world system. The most important assumptions for the following
simulation include:
- Random packet loss is assumed for simplicity, as discussed in the
previous chapter. A specified percentage of the packets is `dropped,' that is,
they are considered unavailable, before decoding.
- Sufficient decoder parameters are also assumed. This implies that
the decoder does satisfy real-time requirements, be them buffer size, network
access connection, decoding and display speed.
- Zero packetisation cost, with respect to bitrate and latency, is
assumed. Since RTP packetisation was not implemented in this work, all the
presented bitrates are not including the additional load caused by packet
headers.
