Standards and Intended Applications

The most popular video coding standards, described in this section, were developed by two organisations. The one is the International Telecommunications Union-Telecommunicatinons sector (ITU-T), which has specified the H.26x standards, targeted to videoconferencing applications. The second is the International Standards Organisation (ISO), particularly its Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG), which developed the MPEG standards, targeted to entertainment video applications.
