The Sylskar family was originally from Norway. More precisely, they were from Bjerland Gardsnavn, Bjelland Prestegjeld, Bjelland Sogn, Vestre Skoledistrikt, Finsland, Vest-Agder, Norway. My gr-gr-grandmother, Anna Nelson Sylskar, came with her father Nels (or Nils) Sylskar, step-mother Mari, and her siblings to Marshall County, MN around 1892. It appears that they did not all immigrate at exactly the same time, but rather over a period of a year or two. The step-mother Mari listed 1892 as year of immigration on the 1910 Census. It was in MN that Anna Nelson Sylskar met and married Olaf Hvidsten, who had also been born in Norway. They were married in a double wedding ceremony with Olaf's sister Petra. Alternate spellings for Sylskar are Solyvskar, Solvskar, Solakar and Solskar.
Nils Olsen Solyvskar m1 (1869) Marie Thorkildsdatter Aagedal m2 (1876) Marie Torjusdatter Foss Tonnesland Both marriages were made in Norway before Nils immigrated to MN.
Nils had the following children during his 2 marriages: (Surnames are listed according to how I have usually seen them spelled) There were indeed two daughters named Anna, each born of different wives.
