Silencing the beast
I carried out the mods by Specboy on AVS another 1292
owner.
I heard is projector and it is very very quiet.
As with all the mods below do them at your own risk.
Voltage regulator Mod
This mod utilises a LM7809 series voltage regulator and a
couple of capacitors on each of the 12 original fans to lower the
speed/noise.
ONLY DO THIS FULL MOD ON A 1292 IF YOU ARE IN AN
AIRCONDITIONED ROOM.
AMBIENT TEMPERATURE APPROX 23
degC.

* Keep electrolytic caps close to the regulator
* Only use this mod on fixed speed fans not variofans. Variofans
have a black sensor attached on a flylead (only for other sony 12xx projector
the 1292 does not have variofans)
*For 80mm Fans no heatsink is required for regulator
(I carried this mod out on my old 1252, it made a hugh
difference to is noise level)
So Far I have only modified the 2 powersupply fans, the 3 fans
on the rear and the 2 exhaust fans with this regulator mod.
I have not modified the 3crt fans or the 2 rear side fans yet,
as I intend to replace these with quieter fans of equal or better
airflow.
At high resolutions eg 1080p the neck boards get pretty
warm.
Below is a link to a thread on AVS about 1292 Fan mods
>>>Just how loud is the sony1292Q<<<
operate at what the manufacturer calls full speed (2800 rpm) for 33 cubic
feet per minute of airflow each at 31 decibels.
