Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) : MAN is a high speed of network that connects Local Area Network (LANs) in metropolitan
area such as campuses, offices , and government that are frequently used as links between
                                                             buildings .

Area of coverage : MANs connects local area network  (LANs) in a metropolitan area such as campuses , office and
                                                  government
that are frequently use as links between buildings.
Ownership : MANs are owned by a group of users who jointly own and operate the network.

Type of Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)

                                                                              Campus Area Network (CAN)
*CAN is a type of a computer network interconnecting a few local area
networks (LANs) within a university campus or corporate campus .
*CAN may link variety of campus buildings including departments, the
university library and student halls of residence.

Advantages
Disadvantages
  • MAN can enhance data transfer effeciency because it connects many LANs together and increases area coverage
  • As the network connects many computers over many networks , the connection can at time become quite slow.
  • Security - Virus spread easily at large area.
