HURLER SYNDROME
Hurler Syndrome is a very terrible disease that effects some children when they are born.  Known also as Mucopolysaccharidosis Type I, Hurler Syndrome is a genetic disorder that is very harmful to the developing child.  This effects the chromosome 4XD164-173.  My mission was to find a way to help a child with Hurler Syndrome by creating something that would help them in everyday life.  I made a contact with a family, and together we came up with the idea of making a device that helped my contact grip things larger than what he normally could, as an effect of the disease is having small, undeveloped features such as fingers and toes.
Background
The Device
My device was designed to allow my contact to grip objects larger than his body would physically allow him to.  As you can see from the picture, I made this device from supplies I could have gotten at home from spare parts.  The main design was meant to fit on the arm of a five year old child.  My contact attaches the bands to his right arm, while holding the handle in his left arm.  He can pull the cord to close to grips around the object that he would like to pick up.  This increases his range of motion.
