| This is based on data from the Giovanni Clanbook, Mafia book, and GST website information. If anyone has any corrections or clarifications, let me know and I'll verify and fix it. Nobodies (rank/status 0) Obviously, this covers the vast majority of the world, including those mortals who are of the extended Family. This also includes those ghouls who are not one of the recognized Families. There are exceptions to this, but they are rare and hard-earned. Piciotto (rank/status 1) A Piciotto often refers to a ghoul or other "special" servant of the Family. This includes only those who are part of the Family. Note that there are families who have been traditional sources of ghouls and other special servants. This was the case with St. John, Koenig, Li Weng, and several other minor families before they became Bloodlines. Ghouls of these non-Bloodline families are considered to be "Of The Blood" and are accorded the proper respect for their families' achievements. Sgarrista (rank/status 2) This indicates a servant who has earned the Kiss, literally becoming a "made man". Most ghouls never achieve this rank without being embraced, but it does happen from time to time and is generally a sign that the ghoul is being watched for eligibility for the Kiss. Of course, it may also mean that the ghoul is serving well enough to be promoted, but not enough to be embraced, in which case the ghoul may be spending an awful long time in Proxy, perhaps permanently. Capodecima (rank/status 3) Often shortened to Capo, the Capodecima is one who is in charge of a small group of the Family within a city, or in charge of a special project or operation. This title is common where some of the Family routinely work together. It is also used if there is a distinctive number of the various families. For instance, in a city with a Pisanob majority and a large Putanesca minority, one Putanesca may be declared Capodecima for all of his Bloodline. Capo Bastogne (rank/status 4) This is the chief lieutenant of a Don, the right hand of the Family's leader in the city. The Capo Bastogne (often simply "Capo") is trusted to take charge and make decisions if the Don is unavailable and handles routine matters of Family business. It is often the Capo Bastogne who represents the Family's interests in interactions with other Kindred. A Capo Bastogne is chosen by the Don. Don or Dona (rank/status 5) The Boss. The Chief Executive. The leader of all Giovanni in a city. Dons and Donas are typically chosen by the Consigliore. Ultimately, it is the Don who choose his lieutenants and established the hierarchy in his city for all of the lower ranks. Consigliore (rank/status 6) Traditionally, the Consigliore was the chief advisor to a Don. Today, Consigliore have sovereign authority over entire regions. They are named by the Primo and approved by the Bruglione. Primo Consigliore (rank/status 7) The Primo is in charge of all Family operations over a wide scale, usually a country or group of countries. They are appointed by the Bruglione. Bruglione, Capo de Famiglia (rank/status 8) Bruglione form a council of advisors for the Anziani, and each is given control and oversight of an entire continent. Bruglione are named by Venice. However, the Bruglione Council was dissolved on orders from Venice in April, 2004, with their powers being singularly invested in Don Joseph Giovanni. Also at this level are the Capo de Famiglia. Each is invested with authority over a Bloodline. For instance, if Carlos Pisanob is named as the Capo for the Pisanob, he would be "Capo Carlo Pisanob de Famiglia Pisanob." There is also a Capo for the Giovanni family, who is titled Capo de Famiglia de Unico Sanguine. Anziani (rank/status 9) The Elders of the Family, always the Childer or Grandchilder of Uncle Augustus himself. They are the "Voices of Venice" who direct Family operations across the globe. It is unclear if the founders of the Bloodlines are part of the Anziani or fall somewhere between Anziani and Capo de Famiglia. Uncle Augustus Giovanni (rank/status 10) The founder of the Clan, the man who put the "G" in Giovanni, the founding Antedilivian himself. He is THE voice of Venice which all Giovanni obey and revere. While the Camarilla and Sabbat hustle and bustle over what they think their cryptic Antediluvians are doing and what they want, we are spared that indignity. When Uncle Augustus wants us to know something or do something, he tells us, and we get to it. No wasted time, no miscommunications. It's good to be a Giovanni. The Giovane d'Honore There are those who do not fit so neatly into the hierarchy. Most of these are those non-Family members who have proven themselves extremely valuable in the long term or have earned places of respect in the Family. Nor are they always Kindred. Some have been lupines, sorcerers, and other types of supernatural beings. Even a mere mortal may (very rarely) carve out a place for himself in the Family if he has ample courage, tenacity, and abilities the family wants. These are the Giovane d'Honore. Most of them are commonly in the ranks of Soldati but, on rare occasions, Giovane d'Honore have earned well-respected positions of higher rank in the Family (though it is believed none has ever become a Don). The odds against them are tremendous, but anyone who can overcome such adversity is greatly prized (usually in secret). |
