CLASS # 4

HUMOR

§        STIMULUS ACTIVITY:  Guess Who?
Objective:  GMs will experience a lighthearted game and hopefully experience a moment of relief that will aid them in appreciating the importance of humor in their lives.

Description---Famous People:  GL writes the names of famous people on mailing labels (one person on each label) and sticks it on each GM’s back. GMs have to ask each other “yes” and “no” questions to identify the name on their back. When they succeed, they remove the label from their back and stick on the front of their shirt.

§        TODAY’S TOPIC:  LIGHTEN UP!! USING HUMOR TO LESSEN THE STRESS.  GL discusses the importance of looking at the lighter side of a heavy situation; how it impacts physical and emotional health while at the same time making certain situations much easier to tackle. GL asks GMs to share personal examples of times when they laughed at themselves as CGs and/or laughed at the CR due to a humorous situation. GL starts by sharing one or two funny stories that relates to a care giving situation for an aging family member.

§        Break

§        HOMEWORK FROM PAST WEEK:  GMs share experiences where they restructured negative thoughts or self-talk and experienced new outcomes.

§        TALK-IT-OUT

§        HOMEWORK:  Find cartoons, jokes, or articles that give a humorous look at aging and/or care giving. Bring them to class, or at least bring two jokes.
