PATIENT BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT 

 

§        STIMULUS ACTIVITY:  Acting Up!
Objective:  GMs are presented with a lighthearted way to express a stress-producing situation with which they deal on a frequent basis.

Description: GMs role play without words one thing that their CR does that drives them up the wall! Everyone tries to guess what it is.

 

§        TODAY’S TOPIC:  PATIENT BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES.
SPEAKER:  EXPERT ON PATIENT BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY WITH THE CARE RECEIVER.
 
After the speaker delivers the information, a question and answer period ensues. This gives GMs the opportunity to ask very specific questions about problems they are having with their CRs and how best to approach the situation.

 

§        Break 

 

§        HOMEWORK FROM PAST WEEK:  GMs share major stressors that they notated in their daily journal and discuss possible methods for dealing with these situations.

 

§        TALK-IT-OUT

 

§        HOMEWORK:  GMs are asked to keep a log of any negative thoughts about their care giving situation and to make special notes of any negative self-talk. GL gives examples such as feeling guilty because of anger, resentment, etc. GL also gives examples of negative self-talk such as “I’m no good at this” or “I hate myself for---.”

 

§        POST-SESSION EVALUATION
