CLASS #10---FINAL SESSION

NUTRITION, EXERCISE, AND PLAY 

 

 

§        STIMULUS ACTIVITY:  Simon Says!
Objective:  To have fun while being active. To feel the benefits of slow stretching.

Description:  GMs play “Simon Says” by following a leader’s slow stretching exercise (e.g. “Simon Says: stretch your right arm over your head.” “Simon Says: Bend your body to the left.” “Straighten up”--- (Whoever straightens up first and thus did not note that “Simon Says” was not in the command---becomes the next Simon to lead an exercise.)

 

§        TODAY’S TOPIC:  THE BENEFITS OF EXERCISE, PLAY, AND GOOD NUTRITION.

SPEAKER: EXPERT IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FOR SEDENTARY ADULTS.
Speaker explains health benefits of regular exercise and takes GMs through a series of low impact workouts and enjoyable games easily accomplished indoors and outdoors.

SPEAKER:  REGISTERED DIETICIAN (
or other nutrition expert). Speaker points out the importance of a healthy diet for both physical and emotional well-being. Speaker also gives handouts containing quick, easy, and healthy meal plans and recipes. Several nutritious and tasty treats for GMs to sample should be provided (recipes included).

 

§        Break

 

§        HOMEWORK FROM PAST WEEK:  GMs share what was discovered on website searches. GMs relate who actually asked for and received assistance with a care giving task and tell about the outcome.

 

§        TALK-IT-OUT:  GL reminds all that this is the last formal session and now is the time to ask anything they want. GL refreshes what topics were covered in the 10 sessions and then opens up discussion to GMs.

 

§        POST-EVALUATION ASSESSMENT:  GMs once again take the assessment that was first administered during the initial session.

 

§        INFORMATION FOR BOOSTER SESSION:  GL informs GMs of a date and time for a booster session in 8 weeks. GMs are asked to journal daily whenever possible due to the value of reflection and also in order to be prepared to share triumphs and concerns for the booster session.

 

§        BIBLIOTHERAPY:  GL distributes handout to GMs containing a list of recommended books that will aid in dealing with the care- giving situation.
