1880’s Chicago workers formed the Bridge Builders Mutual Association
1890 Mutual Association changes name to Bridge and Construction Men’s Union.
1892 Construction Men’s Union changes its name to Bridge and Structural Iron Workers Union. This is Local 1 today.
1890’s New York ironworkers organize into the Housesmiths under “fighting Sam Parks.” Later they become Local 2.
Feb. 4, 1896 Delegates meet in Pittsburgh and form the International Association of Bridge and Structural Ironworkers of America.
