Huntington wrestlers win Wendy’s Classic

TIFFIN, Ohio -- Huntington had one champion and 12 individuals place on the way to winning the Wendy’s Classic wrestling tournament held Friday and Saturday at Tiffin Columbian High School.

The Highlanders finished with 195.5 points to 155 for runner-up Groveport Madison. Toledo Central Catholic was third with 136 points.

Huntington’s Kenny Hutchinson won the 215-pound title. Placing second for the Highlanders were Steve Riner at 112, Shawn Dixon at 119 and Chad Nelson at 135. Also placing were Zach Fraley, sixth at 103; Drew Hetzer, sixth at 125; James Kelly, fifth at 125; Jeremy Ray, third at 140; Mike Waldeck, fourth at 145; Isaac Myers, third at 152; Jeremy Patick, third at 160; and James Nelson, fifth at 189.

Other team scores were Miami Trace, 142.5; Whitmer, 123; Western Brown, 97; Toledo St. Francis, 97; West Carrollton, 90.5; Lancaster, 81; Upper Sandusky, 76; Margaretta, 72; Lexington, 70.5; Elida, 68; Tiffin Columbian, 53.5; Maysville, 30.5; and Sylvania South, 15.

The Highlanders return to action this Saturday in the Blue-Gray Duals in Colonial Forge, Va.
