PARKERSBURG -- With all 14 wrestlers placing and five winning titles, Parkersburg captured the Mountain State Athletic Conference wrestling championship Saturday at Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Big Reds finished with 237.5 points to 187.5 for runner-up Huntington High, which defeated Parkersburg for the title in the 2001 tournament.
"They�re tough and they�re back," Huntington coach Bill Archer said of the Big Reds, who have not lost a tournament or dual since Dec. 12 when rival Parkersburg South beat them in their annual dual.
"We wrestled hard today and things went better as the day progressed," Big Reds coach Scheny Schenerlein told Adam Gibson of the Parkersburg News
"Anytime you defeat Huntington by 50 points, it is a definite plus for your team."
Ripley placed
third with 163 points, followed by Nitro with 132 and Cabell Midland with
99.

Parkersburg�s
champs were Brandon Rader at 112 pounds, Michael George at 140, Darren
Marks at 171, Chris Daggett at 189 and Lou Thomas at 215. Marks has won
three straight MSAC individual titles.
Huntington had seven wrestlers reach the finals. Robbie Williams beat Ripley�s Matt Smith at 130 and Jason Mays prevailed at 160. Highlanders who took second were Steve Riner at 112, Chad Nelson at 135, Mike Waldeck at 140, Robert Chaney at 152 and Kenny Hutchinson at 215.
"Robbie wrestled real well," Archer said. "Jason did a good job, too."
Cabell Midland had two individual champions. Chris Gibbs won at 140, defeating Waldeck, and Mark Childers won at heavyweight.
"The Big Reds
wrestled pretty well," Knights coach Ernie Sparks said. "Chris and Mark
came through for us."
