| Water Cheating and Shore Breaking |

Water work with poodles can be a tough concept. Not because the dogs can't do it but because we do not know how much of the natural water abilities are left in some lines of the breed. I suggest a very patient and thoughtful introduction and training in the water. I begin with non pressure or non ecollar types of teaching methods. There is always time later to add pressure if and when necessary. Anyone that has come this far in researching training a retriever poodle should take the time to do everything possible to develop good water attitude. Without good water attitude there is not much hope of achieving a very high level in the hunt tests or hunting (unless you are only upland hunting) arena. |
