| July 2009 Summer is underway and we are riding like crazy! We have a record number of horses here, and many of them are for sale. Please check out our sale page for more information. We are really excited, we have a great bunch of horses and they all fit into our program really well. We have a few new faces around the barn, so we would like to extend our welcome to the Balken family- daughters Kaleigh and Franscis brought their two horses Blaze and Freeze to the farm on June 1st. We love having them and are really excited to get them into the show ring! Also congratulations to Bellamy and Tallulah Novogratz on their lease of our best pony Saz. He is totally special and has brought so many riders up the ranks. We look forward to working with them as they develop their riding skills on their new mount! Another welcome goes to Sebastian Salinas, who is joining us as a working student for the summer. He comes all the way from Coral Springs, FL. He is a great help around the barn, and also a terrific rider. He will be showing Cashmir in the equitation and jumpers while he is here. We had a great time at Northeast Benefit, bringing 9 horses, and brought home some lovely ribbons. Highlights inculde Meg and Orion winning their MHC Medal class, and placing 3rd in the Childrens Jumper Classic, and Brittney and Roxy bringing home a tri-color in the Maiden Equitation. It was Roxy's first rated show. Congrats! We have shown at HITS several times, and though the competition is fierce, we have had good trips and brought home nice ribbons. It's nice to have such a quality venue so close to home! We held our first show of the year on June 14th and it was totally a washout. The grounds were under water and we had to move all the jumps from our big lovely hunt course into the small sand ring. It was a bummer, but people still showed up to compete and we made the best of it! Alice Curtin and Pennywise won the Newmar Antares Memorial Pleasure Challenge, so that was exciting. Our next show will be October 25th. We head to New England Regional Morgan Show with Elsie and Lucky to show in the hunters and jumpers. We hope to make a trip to the World Championships this year come October. They are all the way in Oklahoma City, so it will be a haul! Our next away show will be Northampton Hunter/Jumper, where it looks like we will be bringing 12 horses. It should be a great time, and we are really looknig foward to it! May 2009 Harmony Hill is in full force! Aimee returned from Wellington with 6 horses, and we are busy getting back into the hustle and bustle of things. We started showing in April, and went to Winslow, Berkshire Equestrian, White Horse, and Stoneleigh Burnham. We went to week 2 of Saratoga, where Orion was the star, winning 2nd place in the Marilyn Schmidt Memorial jumper classic. Our next show will be Northeast Benefit in June. We have several new horse and rider teams this year that we are awfully excited about. Brittney will be showing her new large pony Roxy in the Children's Hunter Pony and mini-medal divisions; while her sister Victoria will be riding Teddy in the equitation and high Children's jumpers. Alice will be riding her mare Penny in the mini-medal division. Should be a great season! We are busily getting ready for our next show, which will be held on June 14th. Feel free to email Aimee for a prize list or check back on the website. We hope to have the prizelist posted in the next few days! We have included a new leadline division, as well as an advanced/adult Walk/Trot division. We will have a Pleasure Challenge Trophy, and a $200 Trainer's Award. Keith has built some more beautiful jumps, and we have a brand new PA system, it should be a great time! We would like to welcome a couple new horses in the barn- Manhattan aka "Mattie" is a 4 y.o Swedish WB filly by Vermouth. She is owned by Dr. Jackie Nixon-Fulton and comes to us from Texas. Jackie has a top-notch breeding program, and has sent us Mattie to start over fences and sell. We are excited to find her a new home- this is an adorable filly! Calvin is another new sale horse, which the girls have been having a blast working with. They have started him over fences, and he is a pleasure to work with. He is a quick learner, and also just waiting for the perfect home to come along! Gunner has returned to us from Boston, though his owner moved away, she decided to send him back here for the summer. We are glad to have him back! Congratulations to Elsie on graduating High School! She and Lucky will head to Stephens College in Missouri in the fall. Sadly, we had to put down Antares on April 27th. Antares was a huge part of the barn, and we miss him every day. He was 25 years old, and a tumor was found on his small intestine during colic surgery. Antares lived at the Harmony Hill barn since he was 2 years old. He was a stallion for a number of years, and started life out as an Arabian racehorse. He retired from that, going on to be a Champion on the Arabian circuit both in Harness and Under Saddle. Aimee and Kacy taught him how to jump, which took a while for him to decide it was fun, but once he did, watch out! They both showed him in Mini-Medal and won hundreds of ribbons on him. He was Mr. Personable, and loved to be in the limelight. His owner, Sally, enjoyed doing lower level dressage with him, and occasionally trail rode. We will be holding a class in his honor at our show, offering a Perpetual Trophy. Rest in Peace, Antares. January 2009 Happy New Year! We are excited to be looking forward to another great season with all of our friends at Harmony Hill. We are planning to hold two more horseshows this season- one in June, and one in October. There is also talk of a hunterpace, as well! Aimee is currently busy with the show circuit in Wellington, while Kacy is at home managing cold, ice, and sale horses. We have two adorable ponies for sale, please check out our sale page for more info. Meg just got back from a clinic with Nona Garson, where she learned a bunch, and was given a lot of great exercises to work with. Orion is dabbling in his career as a dressage horse, and will be showing on the winter circuit in FL, in addition to showing in the eq and jumper rings! We are looking forward to the Western New England Professional Horseman's Association banquet, where Cashmir won the Children's Hunter Division, Brittney and Saz won the Short Stirrup Equitation division, Meg and Victoria tied for Champion for the Limit Medal Standings, and Brittney was reserve in the Short Stirrup Medal standings. Alice, Emma, Sabrina, Elsie, BeDazzled, and Teddy will all be bringing home ribbons as well- we are very proud! October 2008 The show season has wrapped up and we are tired but happy! It was a great year, and we ended it with a bang at our first horse show, on October 25th. We had a great turnout, despite the dreary weather, and completed half a days worth of classes before having to cancel the afternoon divisions due to weather complications. Keith finished the jumping course in good time, and we even had a few people ask if we had rented the jumps! It is nice to see our hard work pay off. Congratulations to Elsie and Lucky for winning the $500 Hunter Classic! She bested 12 other riders in two hunter rounds to win a cooler, and prize money. Great job! We had great success at both the MHC and WNEPHA Equitation Finals, where everyone brought home great ribbons. The highlight was Victoria and Pennywise winning the Horsemanship Class! Well done! Congratulations to the Cardillo family on their purchase of "Roxy." We looked forward to continuing her training over fences, and I also envision some fun trail rides in the future! We head to Equine Affaire on Nov 14th where Victoria will ride Cashmir in a hunter clinic with Linda Allen. Aimee, Orion, BeDazzled, and Cashmir will pack their bags and head to Wellington, FL shortly after Equine Affaire. |
