Happy Anniversary, dear
husband!!!
And what an exciting day it has been! We startedoff the morning
with our usual morning rush and a quick, "I love you! Happy
Anniversary", as we ran out the door. Of course, today is day
care day, so Mark got to deal with the usual tears this morning. Then we had somehow left the house without Lauren's lunch (which was made and sitting on the counter). So Mark got to visit the school for that. A short time later he returned with a romantic Sonic lunch for us that we ate in the lounge surrounded by fellow teachers. While my kids were at music, I listened to our local Christian Station and heard Mark's sweet message to me (it plays throughout the day as part of a sponsorship). It was beautiful and made me cry. I didn't even pay him to say all of those sweet things. A short while later I received a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses and orange lilies with leaves and other fall foliage. Oh, and I found a sweet card on my desk from him. Then I made dinner, which trust me, some weeks, that is a miracle in itself. The boys had to go to Boy Scouts, so I decided to make a chocolate pound cake, which I recently found out is Mark's favorite. I have never made one, but I found a recipe on the Internet. I borrowed a "tube" pan from my mom. At one point I decided to check on the cake and I noticed that it was dripping into the bottom of the oven. I got that problem fixed, but now there was a bunch of cake goo in the bottom of the oven. I finished making the cake, which was pretty good by the way. Then I got the NOT SO bright idea that I would just do an oven clean to get rid of that stuff. A few minutes later smoke poured out of the oven as the cake goo burned up. We started coughing and tearing up. So we took the kids outside in their pajamas to sit under the stars...Mark went around and opened all of the doors and windows he could. It still smells like a campfire in here. Oh, and I am praying that we don't get any kind of poisoning from the smoke we did inhale. We do have a carbon monoxide detector, but the batteries were dead. So we had to search the house for a 9V battery. We have every other kind. We finally found one in a tool or something. It is NOT showing carbon monoxide. I just know our house does not smell. The good news is the haze has about cleared. And thankfully the girls room was pretty clear; their door had been closed. The fish is not floating (and he is in the kitchen) which we take as a good sign. I am sure it will be a memorable anniversary...Mark is convinced I am trying to kill him. I really wasn't. All I wanted to do was make something special for him. He should know by now that is a recipe for disaster. (Think about my first spaghetti sauce, honey...that should have been a clue!) So, it is not the Bahamas or a resort like we had planned. Nor is it a return to the little cabin in Gatlinburg that we stayed at on our honeymoon. But it is still an adventure, sweet husband. And I still love you with all of my heart. I hope we survive this (and much more) to make it to number 11 and so much more. By the way, if we don't show up at school tomorrow...you might come looking for us! |
