I really should not be posting. I am extremely tired. But I just wanted to recap the day really quick. Other than an hour long temper tantrum this afternoon (still not sure why), it was a GREAT day for Miss Maria. She woke up happy and even seemed to like Daddy. Boy, we must have some mighty prayer warriors out there. She was following him around the house. He looked at her and said, "Hola!" which means "Hello" in Spanish. She responded, "Hola". Boy, were we surprised! We hadn't heard that word from her. Then he said, "Hello!" She responded, "Yellow!" After we did some things around the house, we ran a few errands. Maria had her first visit to the post office and then a visit to Toys R Us. We had a wonderful gift certificate from the fifth grade team at my school. We bought a ride-on toy and a couple of other necessary "toddler toys". One of my treats today was in the Old Navy parking lot when we ran into an old friend of mine. I was holding Maria and just chatting with my friend when Maria just kissed me on the cheek, out of the blue. I think my friend (meeting Maria for the first time) and I were both surprised by the spontaneous display of affection. Then we hit Kohls and the clearance racks. We came back for lunch, and Maria announced her new word of the day, "Eat!" (I had been asking her if she wanted to...I think she made a connection!) She was just delightful, went down for the nap beautifully, then woke up REALLY cranky. I am not sure what happened...she had a major tantrum when it was time to wake up and pick up the kids. A MAJOR tantrum. I am still learning how to handle those. Our other two had tantrums too, but we had had two years of learning their buttons. With this one, I am at a complete loss as to what to do. And I find myself getting quite frustrated...I don't know if it is with her or with myself for not knowing what to do! That is a prayer request for you. Once we got past that, she turned delightful again. I showed her the ride-on toy, which she immediately began to play with. She would wave good-bye to me and ride around the corner. When Mark came home, I was eager to see her reaction...she quickly went to him and played and talked. I don't know if this is the real Maria or the one we had yesterday who wouldn't step near him. Who knows? We went out for a family celebration with my parents and grandmother to a new restaurant to celebrate Maria's homecoming. I think Maria ate just about everything in sight. She was a bottomless pit. She has also learned to sign "more", which she used a lot when the ice cream was brought out. Oh, the whole time she ate, she played with Mark, talked to him, laughed...very surreal. Even when we got home and started to get pj's on, she remained pretty calm. I did most of it, while he did get to brush her teeth without any screaming involved. She even went to bed pretty happy. So it really was a good day. It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings!
Pray for my parents this weekend...Mark and I have a date! (a concert date!) And pray for us as we seek someone to watch the kids this Sunday for a little bit...I am hitting up the interns at school tomorrow. :)
Thanks for praying and being there with us through these changes! |
