Early Day by Day Entries

Well, for the most part, we had a great day today.  Maria and I went to school for pictures (me for the yearbook), to read to my class, and to eat with Hunter.  Then we went back this afternoon for a baby shower and faculty meeting.  Maria got some fun toys, a very cute dress, and a beautiful framed poem.  We also got several gift cards.  We had registered at a couple of places just for fun a long time ago, so now I can go and get some of those things...plus more!  I think we might start tomorrow!  We are very blessed to have such a loving faculty...I have really missed them the past few weeks.  During faculty meeting, Maria declared her word for the day, "Yeah!"  (As in "yay")  Then she clapped.  She has been doing that all night.  She also looked at me one time today and said, "Mama."  So everything was great...until around 7:15 when Dad came home.  It is hard to believe just a couple of days ago, Maria was begging for him to throw her into the air (gently) or swing her around.  Now, she has become "Anti-Dad" again.  As soon as he stepped into the house, she shut down.  I hate that he didn't get to see how very delightful she was being.  We don't know what accounts for the changes...maybe it is because he goes to work.  But then she isn't like that with the kids who go to school.

So, prayer warriors, this is minor, but for us right now, major.  Please pray for Maria to adjust to Daddy.  He loves her so much and she is downright hysterical anytime he is near.  It makes our evenings extremely unpleasant.  I am hoping next week while I conduct conferences, Maria will have a chance to bond with Daddy.  Also, please pray for us to find childcare for Sunday night (and every other Sunday night).  Thankfully it is in the early evening, so it won't interfere with bedtime.  We do have a praise though that she is starting to pick up some language.  Thank you for praying with us!

I really should not be posting. I am extremely tired.  But I just wanted to recap the day really quick.  Other than an hour long temper tantrum this afternoon (still not sure why), it was a GREAT day for Miss Maria.  She woke up happy and even seemed to like Daddy.  Boy, we must have some mighty prayer warriors out there.  She was following him around the house.  He looked at her and said, "Hola!" which means "Hello" in Spanish.  She responded, "Hola".  Boy, were we surprised!  We hadn't heard that word from her.  Then he said, "Hello!"  She responded, "Yellow!"  After we did some things around the house, we ran a few errands.  Maria had her first visit to the post office and then a visit to Toys R Us.  We had a wonderful gift certificate from the fifth grade team at my school.  We bought a ride-on toy and a couple of other necessary "toddler toys".  One of my treats today was in the Old Navy parking lot when we ran into an old friend of mine. I was holding Maria and just chatting with my friend when Maria just kissed me on the cheek, out of the blue. I think my friend (meeting Maria for the first time) and I were both surprised by the spontaneous display of affection.  Then we hit Kohls and the clearance racks.  We came back for lunch, and Maria announced her new word of the day, "Eat!"  (I had been asking her if she wanted to...I think she made a connection!)  She was just delightful, went down for the nap beautifully, then woke up REALLY cranky.  I am not sure what happened...she had a major tantrum when it was time to wake up and pick up the kids.  A MAJOR tantrum.  I am still learning how to handle those.  Our other two had tantrums too, but we had had two years of learning their buttons.  With this one, I am at a complete loss as to what to do.  And I find myself getting quite frustrated...I don't know if it is with her or with myself for not knowing what to do!  That is a prayer request for you.  Once we got past that, she turned delightful again. I showed her the ride-on toy, which she immediately began to play with.  She would wave good-bye to me and ride around the corner.  When Mark came home, I was eager to see her reaction...she quickly went to him and played and talked.  I don't know if this is the real Maria or the one we had yesterday who wouldn't step near him.  Who knows?  We went out for a family celebration with my parents and grandmother to a new restaurant to celebrate Maria's homecoming.  I think Maria ate just about everything in sight.  She was a bottomless pit.  She has also learned to sign "more", which she used a lot when the ice cream was brought out.  Oh, the whole time she ate, she played with Mark, talked to him, laughed...very surreal.  Even when we got home and started to get pj's on, she remained pretty calm.  I did most of it, while he did get to brush her teeth without any screaming involved.  She even went to bed pretty happy.  So it really was a good day.  It will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings!

Pray for my parents this weekend...Mark and I have a date!  (a concert date!)  And pray for us as we seek someone to watch the kids this Sunday for a little bit...I am hitting up the interns at school tomorrow. :)

Thanks for praying and being there with us through these changes!

This will be very brief. It is storming, and I don't trust the electricity.  We had a GREAT day.  Maria and I did some major shopping with more gift cards and got some much needed toddler supplies.  Then we went to a friend's house for a cookout...there were kids everywhere.  Maria had a lot of fun, though she prefers playing by herself.  She did like Daddy today.  She is kissing us both spontaneously now and hugs alot.  Her word of the day is "Buckle" as in the carseat so she can go!  Pray for our date night tomorrow night (or rather those at home :) and our babysitter search for Sunday evening.  We struck out with interns. :(  I don't know if our kids have a bad reputation or what. :)  I will write more tomorrow.
Hola....hello!
