The AmenitiesThe Details You'll Want to KnowFor only 3.3 acres, this property has a lot to offer. This is a list of amenities and special features we have added over the years. They make our place special. |

In the kitchen...Pine cabinets are custom-designed. Some have glass doors to display your pottery or glassware. Several drawers have been fitted with: silverware dividers, a knife block, plate racks. The counters are made of butcher block. There is lighting under each cabinet so you have plenty of work light. There is also a section of counter that's a pastry slab. What a great surface to work on! The floor is Ken-tile - virtually indestructible, and virtually indistinguishable from terra cotta (until you spend a weekend cooking - your back WON'T be killing you!) This is a wonderfully utile material that still looks good. It is also much kinder than stone when it comes to breakage. The raised hearth and wood stove are a focal point. We supplement the oil heat all winter long. We have always cut and stacked firewood - there's a great supply waiting for next winter. The wet bar is another feature for entertaining. The cabinets above the sink and counter have built-in glass racks. The kitchen is graced and lighted by a nine-foot wide bank of windows from which to watch the seasons change. It's a breathtaking view! We have replaced the dishwasher and refrigerator in the last five years. They are black and stainless and make a nice look with the pine! The fridge is a huge Kenmore Treo, and the dishwasher is a (super-quiet) Frigidaire. Other appliances which are included with the house are a washer/dryer combination less than ten years old, located in the basement. The powder room...Next to the kitchen is the powder room. It's small, but the built-in bookshelves and custom oak vanity make it special. In the dining room...We have always planned to turn this into a formal dining room. But it also could be your home office (it has its own entrance!)or wonderful family room/guest room. It is 11 by 17 feet, with a raised hearth fireplace and built-in cabinets on each side. Add some shelves and you have an entertainment center. The closet could also be a serving alcove for parties. All throughout the house...The random-width floors are fir. We spent weeks stripping and refinishing them and it was worth it. They glow with a honey color. We have added a huge front-hall closet off the kitchen. And the pantry (see photos) is a cook's dream! We searched high and low and found just the right antique light fixtures for the bathrooms and bedrooms. The doors have their original antique hardware. We've installed track lighting downstairs to showcase our artwork. It works well with any decor. The Andersen windows are in good condition. We re-sided with white vinyl siding and put on a green metal roof in 2000, and they are fantastic! This really looks like the cool old house that it is. Utilities...We currently use oil heat, but there is a gas main within 50' of the house, and we've considered switching over. The house is supplied with a 200 amp electrical service. Cable TV is available. The electrical wiring and plumbing were updated during major renovation. The barn...We put on new vinyl siding in 2004, and a new galvanized steel roof within the last 10 years. All windows are modern Andersens. The barn is served by its own 200 amp electrical service. There is all new wiring throughout. The ground floor has had concrete floors poured throughout. There are 10 garage bays! The second-floor hayloft has an outside landing with eight-foot doors and an overhead chainhoist running ten feet inside and seven feet outside. Uses: The barn has been used for housing livestock, storing hay, as a garage, workshop, and studio, and to house boat and tractor collections. There's plenty of room for yourcollection too! Possible studio apartment or home office on the second and third floors of the 3-story section (east end). And you might even use the 20x40-foot shed addition for your horse, and the huge hayloft to store hay. There's plenty of room for tack, and your horse trailer will fit right inside. The library is our favorite room...Charlie built in base cabinets, then put shelves and crown molding above. We love having all our books close at hand. We also display pottery and collectibles. It's so cozy here. There is also a nine-foot bank of windows for watching the world go by. A pocket door also helps this room serve double duty as a guest room when the house is full. The fold-out couch is also available for purchase with the house - it goes perfectly! Upstairs...There are three bedrooms and one "bonus room." Also two full baths, one added in 2003.The "main" bathroom features another gorgeous oak vanity and white porcelain sink - it really fits in with the house. The new bathroom has a really neat white pedestal sink and white stall shower. And the cobalt blue tile floor will amaze you! The bonus room is another place for your home office or family room. There is access to a small storage attic/loft. It's wired for video/audio/telephone and over-wired for office possibilities. Let's see...what else?Oh the yard! We mentioned the woodstove earlier - the woods will supply you with firewood indefinitely. And the wood shed is perfect for seasoning it. It's on the tennis court. Yes - the paving from the tennis court is still there and in pretty good condition, just in case you'd like to brush up on your game. The garden shed is big enough to store all your tools and the lawn mower too. We have always kept guinea fowl and chickens, so the chicken coop is ready for your own chicks! We have graded all around the house, and built raised-bed gardens to keep you busy for a long time. Donna has tried to make everything into perennial beds for the ease of maintenance - but there's plenty of room on the decks for your favorite potted plants too. In the spring the flowering magnolias, azaleas, and lilacs make for quite a show! I guess you can tell we have worked long and hard here! We hope to find a new owner that will be able to enjoy it as much as we have. |
