We created this website in honor of our son, Hunter Davis Leggett, who died tragically on May 1st 2004. A close friend helped us get a bill written and passed in the North Carolina House of Representatives, sponsored by Representative Sherrill in 2005, but it remains stalled in the Senate. After graciously giving us their time, many Senators assured me that the bill itself was not the cause of its delay and ultimate demise. We have already begun work on the bill's re-introduction into the Senate in the upcoming 2007 Session. It passed unopposed in 2006 in the House, so it appears natural to accelerate its success and attempt to conquer any obstacles we may encounter by beginning in the Senate.
I have spoken with several members of the General Assembly of North Carolina and many others whose lives this legislation could effect. I have found much encouragement and support.
It is our belief that this legislation is the purpose of our son's short life. The success of this Bill will be the knowlege and experiences we have gained in obtaining the process. There has been no better reward than finding purpose behind tragedy.
We are very grateful for the time and effort of all those whom have lended a hand in ou efforts and look forward to working hard next session.
