The hunter sport developed hundreds of years ago in old England. Foxhunting was the first sport to require hunter-type horses. Now that hunting foxes is no longer needed, hunting is used for pleasure.
Hunter horses must be on small or medium build, have nice, low gaits which are comfertable to sit to, and must be eager but calm over fences, jumping merily over fences, just enough to clear them. They must have a low headset for they have to travel great distances.
The rider, too, must have a good position and not yank on the horse's mouth. They must be in good control of the horse, and yet not have too tight a hold on the reigns, and not cue too hard.
The horse and rider must have a perfect bond and a perfect ride.

Hunter Inc., previously known as the Hunter Club, is a schooling and showing facility based on the grounds of the Pines. We regularly host shows intended to prepare the horse and rider for the larger circuit. Once a year we host the hunter portion of the Rough River Ride, and so far two of the horses schooled by us have won the RRR title--Dark Lord (1989-Lightspeed Acres) and On The Edge (1993-STARfleet Inc).
