| All registered childminders have a regard for the DFFE code of practice on the identification and assessment of special educational needs, and the implementation of individual education plans. A child's need for love, attention, security and equality of opportunity is paramount. With regard to additional/special needs a child may have, they will be offered the same opportunity for obtaining their goals. All children will have equal access to the activities and experiences provided with regard to their special need or disability. At present any initial concerns about a child will be referred from me, working in partnership with parents to the Early Years team, in this case via the Network Co-ordinator. At all times i will be working with parents/families of the child concerned to ensure that the appropriate support is given to all involved. Child Protection Policy In accordance with the Child Protection Act 1989, i have a responsibility to ensure that a child's welfare is maintained within a safe and secure environment. A cause for concern/suspicious injury will be reported promptly to the under 8's social worker. Children will never be left in the care of another person unless in the case, of an emergency, If a child is injured whilst in my care, you will be informed of the accident. If the injury is serious then you will be notified immediately and the appropriate medical treatment will be sought. If a child arrives with an injury it is expected that you will inform me so that I can record it. Parents and families will be kept fully informed of the days activities via a liaison book which can be taken home daily. If a report is made to Social Services then it is up to them as to which course of action is taken. If your child was taken ill during the day then I would contact the first emergency contact person on the list you have given me, and if need be that person would be expected to collect the child as soon as possible. I cannot care for a sick child, if I did, then I too may become ill and also the other children in my care and my family. If an accident or injury occurs then it would treated appropriately and recorded in my accident and emergency book, which the person collecting the child will be asked to sign. If medication is needed during the day, then I would ask you to give me written instructions detailing quantities and times to be given and signed by you. |
