- Doug Tjapkes' essay (PDF): The essay A friend in the 'death house,' will be placed on the DEAD MAN WALKING SCHOOL THEATRE PROJECT'S playground web site, according to an announcement from the office of Sister Helen Prejean.
The essay was written by HFP President Doug Tjapkes, after he witnessed the execution of a friend and client Anthony Nealy in Huntsville, Texas. It appeared in the Grand Rapids Press on Sunday, May 20, 2007.
Carolyn Clulee, who works for Sister Prejean, said the site is read by students and teachers who are performing the play. She said the Tjapkes essay would give students and teachers a good insight into the execution process. "Plus," she said, "it touches the soul of the reader."
