God cursed the ground for man's sake. God told man that from the sweat of his brow he would eat, and, God pronounced judgements on the serpent and told him right there in prophecy, "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou shalt bruise his heel "(Genesis 3:15) That woman was a virgin called Mary. She was the only woman in the history of the world that had seed. That seed was Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ was God Himself from heaven, come down into this pathetic, fallen, cursed world. The same One who said, "I curse you." is He who became a curse for us, so that the promise and the blessings of Abraham could be brought upon us as Paul told the Galatians.
)13 "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
)14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." (Galatians 3:13 & 14)

Jesus said that I am living and yet I am dying. I am alive, and I am going to die. Something in Him could not die; something about Him could die. He was made sin, yet He never committed wrong.
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (II Corinthians 5:21) Why? He was God doing what no one else could do. He trampled the powers of hell. "Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men." (Ephesians 4:8)

Jesus stripped the devil of his power. Jesus went directly to that serpent and He took the keys back. Jesus took back the keys of death and the keys of hell.
"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." (Revelation 1:18)
