what once was Scheigis's NZ home, is now the
Reef Lodge, an apartment style resort.

one can vacation here for low rates, even during high tourist season - if you want to enjoy your own private beach & mountains!!!
the hospitality portion of the Reef Lodge, lined with banana trees.

although a very private & secluded area, all of the apartments were booked when i was there in December.

some of the guests i met were from Japan, England, Sydney- Australia, and Seattle-Washington!
today - the only remaining portion of the George  Scheigis (Jurgis Seizys) legacy, is the cementitious steps that marked the entrance to his store and house.
this is the apartment, where i stayed for 3 days (wish it was longer!) - in a quaint, modest bungalow, situated on the very foundations of great-Uncle Jurgis's amber store and Post Office

Rangaunu Harbour view from my apartment's patio:

during low tide, i had a direct view of  the Scheigis Rock formation, as though it was there to greet me in the early mornings!
this is a photograph of great-Uncle Jurgis next to his store, taken in the 1950's when he was approximately 84 years of age.
