Hendrik was born shortly before his mother Elizabeth Dopper married Christopher Dopper, who was an older brother of Cornelis. Christoffer then adopts the first child of Elizabeth (father NN), but not Hendrik, who was kept well out of the way. This would strongly imply that Christoffer is not Hendrik's father as was also suggested.
Cornelis Dopper, who had "nothing to do with Hendrik" and was not supposed to know about him, kept sending Hendrik postcards from all over the world (America). These postcards were kept in the bedside table, upstairs in the attic.
Hendrik's wife, "Oma Dopper", destroyed these postcards, including those of her stepbrother, in a very rare temper, when probing questions were asked by her daughter in law "Tante Els". Oma Dopper did however confide in her daughter, (my Mum) that Cornelis Dopper had provided "financial support" for father, during his younger years.
When Hendrik in his late teens went to the "Hotel Dopper" in Stadskanaal to visit his mother Elizabeth, he was promptly shown the door and told never to show his face there again.

It is strange that he was not put up for adoption, the reason for this may have to be investigated, as well as many other questions, e.g. was Cornelis in Stadskanaal at the right time?
Hendrik was born 20/03/1889, therefore Cornelis would have had to be in Stadskanaal nine months before that, approx. 20/06/1888, because Elizabeth was employed there as a maid.
This falls exactly in the Dutch summer holidays and as Cornelis was then a second year student at the Leipzig Music Academy, it would de safe to say that he was home as a very proud and self assured 18 year old music student. And we have all seen the various operettas to know what they get up to.
