Church School Projects
Operation Shoebox
It's that time again......back to church school.  Yeah!
We officially started the church school on Sunday, October 21.  It was nice to see the children after having such a lo--o-ng summer break!  We got started later this year since we typically start AFTER our annual Parish Fall Festival (a big success!).

Please tell other parishioners you know with small children to sign up for church school----it's never too late to join.  We welcome children from Kindergarten through High School.
Don't forget:  We start at 9:15 a.m.!

We will be participating in our annual "Operation Shoebox" drive.  This is the project where donations of toys and essentials are packed into shoeboxes by the church school students.  The children always have fun stuffing and wrapping these presents that will be sent to needy children around the world.

This is such a good project for the children because it teaches them that Christmas is not just about "getting" presents, but also "giving"---especially to children in need.
We usually start by watch a video showing poor children in various countries.

The big project day will be on Sunday, November 4th, during church school (9:15 am).  Please bring an empty shoebox (or more!) and small toys, crayons, etc. on that day.  Parishioners without children are also welcome to contribute to this worthy cause. Wanted:  New Church School Teachers
We are in need of  new Church School Teachers.  No, the current teachers are NOT quitting, however, we are always in need of SUBSTITUTE Teachers to help out when a regular teacher cannot teach (due to illness, schedule conflicts, etc.)

Also, we encourage NEW teacher volunteers to help by taking a class.  Perhaps you have a particular talent or skill that you'd like to share with our children.  Last year, Mrs. Julia Urdenis and Mrs. Sandy Bonasorte, as well as Mrs. Marie Dudzinski, demonstrated how to make pysanky and beaded eggs.  The children enjoyed the change from their usual Church School teachings.

We have a calendar SIGN-UP located next to the "Coffee Hour" signup calendar in the basement.  Please feel free to volunteer your time to the Church's Youth by teaching a class or two.  If anyone is interested in teaching, please contact Matushka.

HROC Festival:
Children's Carnival
We had alot of fun putting on the Children's Carnival for the Church Fall Festival.  There were cool games such as Huggie Toss, Tropical Bean Bag Toss, Bottle Knock-Down and the ever popular Spongebob Tent.

We would like to thank this year's volunteers who helped out at the Children's Carnival:  teens Stacey Bonasorte, Jessalyn Timko, and Jacob Dudzinski. Thanks  to Rebecca Hatalowich for the face painting and for donating the new game, "Harvest Tic-Tac-To". Thanks also to Kyra Bunardzya for staying ALL day and playing with the children.

If anyone is interested in helping next year, by either sponsoring a game (come up with a new one, perhaps?) or "working a booth", please let the Festival Committee know.  We also welcome feedback:  any suggestions, new ideas, etc.

Pumpkin Farm & Hayride Fun
The First Pumpkin Pickin' Hayride Event last Sunday, October 21st was a great success!.  There were nine children and fifteen adults who participated. The fact that there were almost twice as many adults as children shows that this was an event NOT just for children, but for "the young at heart" too!

First, Matushka led the children in making scarecrows from old clothes, stuffing them with hay.  Then, everyone loaded up on the haywagon (including the scarecrows and Sheba, the farm dog) to take a ride out to the pumpkin patch.  A roaring fire was already blazing, thanks to Beth and James Michael Saul.  Everyone unloaded and tthen sat around socialize and eat delicious Halushki, Kielbasi, Hoagies (courtesy of the Dudzinskis) and homemade desserts.  The children (and some adults) had fun roasting hot dogs and making smores over the fire.  After filling our bellies, we then meandered through the Pumpkin Patch, taking care not to step on the vines, because unlike other commercial pumpkin farms,  these pumpkins were still growing on the vine.  Each person had an opportunity to pick out their own pumpkin and take it home.

As we packed up and rode back on the haywagon, we took in the gorgeous sunset and beautiful scenery on the horizon.  You couldn't have asked for a more lovely day!  Good weather, good food and good friends......what more to be thankful for on such a day?
Best of all, it was FREE!

Thanks to all who helped and participated.  As the saying goes, "Many hands make light work".  Hope to see you again next year----especially those who missed it!
