The child that I sponsor, specifically, is 8 year old Lavenda. She lives in a single parent household with her mother, who has breast cancer. Lavenda is in Class 2 and was ranked 14 out of 30 at the completion of the 1st Term.
Many of the children of Galilee Primary School have lost either one or both of their parents to HIV/AIDS. All live on the charity of the community. Through our sponsorship, the children receive school fees to continue their education, as well as the supplemental items that we have agreed to send, including books, charts, maps, and other school supplies.
Together, the sponsorship groups have recently raised enough money to start a poultry project for the school, which will assist in providing the children a healthy meal each school day. Once established, the project has a potential to also become profitable, through sales of eggs and chicks within the community.
