| While 56s were regulars for a while there have only ever been three 60s up to Inverness: 001, 002 and 090. Of these 001/2 came up on trials when they were first built. They were tested because of the steep gradients at either end of the Highland Mainline that represented something the locos might have difficulty with hauling the trains they do know, mainly steel and other such heavy commodities in the Midlands/Wales. |
