Safety

Safety is the most important aspect of refinishing furniture. You will be working with very harsh chemicals that if you are not careful can be very harmful. These items will be listed again in the supply page but are important enough to be listed twice. Before starting your project make sure you have purchased the following:

Durable rubber gloves Safety goggles Canvas and plastic drop clothes Old clothes

When buying your gloves you can purchase several different kinds. But when you are stripping your furniture you want to make sure you have purchased gloves that are specifically for stripping. They will be thicker than other gloves and be made of durable rubber. Also make sure that your gloves come half way up your forearm, this will help when the stripper splatters. Safety goggles are a must due to splatters. As I mentioned the materials you will be working with will be very toxic and can cause eye irritation. The canvas and plastic drop cloths will protect your floors and any surrounding furniture from the stripper. You will want to make sure to cover all surrounding areas. Refinishing furniture can be messy, so old clothes are important. Wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts will help cover the skin and reduce contact of the paint remover.
