Supplies
Some tools for refinishing furniture can be found in your home or around your garage. Others can easily be found at home centers and hardware stores. I have found in my experience that shopping at a specialized store for homes has more efficient supplies that shopping at a department store. Quality of your products make a strong difference when it comes to coverage, saving time, and saving money.
Tools:
Natural bristle brushes (if you purchase synthetic the bristles can melt when they come in contact with harsh chemicals)
Steel wool (0000-3)
Old paint brushes
Paint scraper
Plastic buckets
Putty knife
Brass bristle brushes
Foam brushes
Screwdriver
Durable rubber gloves
Safety goggles
Canvas and plastic drop clothes
Clean dry rags
Paper towels or rags
Newspaper
Sandpaper (60-180 grit)
Carpenter's wood glue
Plastic sheeting
Painter's tape
Lacquer thinner
Stain or paint
Sanding sealer
Finishing sealer
You will find that experimenting with different tools will produce different effects on your furniture. You will find the tools that you feel most comfortable with. Choose carefully for value, buying good quality remover will pay off when you start the sanding process. Also, spending a little extra and a good paint will require fewer coats, which requires less time.
