| Between the years of 1993 and 1996 one of my aunts owned an antique store in my hometown. During that time I worked at the store to help her out in different areas. I always admired a set of bedroom furniture that had obviously been through a lot but had a special touch to it. When she decided to close down the store she let me, along with my sister, and my two cousins pick anything out of the store that we wanted. I immediatly claimed the furniture, not that anybody else wanted it, but I had to get my say on it. My family wondered why I wanted since it had been painted an awful blue color, but since my favorite color is blue I thought it would be perfect for me. It sat in storage for 5 years until I got my own place. Once I moved it into my apartment I realized that the furniture wasn't as perfect as I imagined. The paint started to look worse everyday, and that is when I decided to do something about it. I decided to refinish it and paint it the color that would bring out its delicate curves and detail carvings. I had never refinished furniture before, but since I had many years of art experience behind me, I knew I could accomplish this task. I never imagined the time it would take to finish the furniture, but I also never imagined how beautiful it could turn out. I am just glad that almost 10 years ago I could see some potential in the furniture, it definatly turned out to be a great choice. |
